Item Details

Pair of French 19th century hand carved oak cherubs bearing pennants. Each banner bears the names of five famous literary figures.

On the flag of one puttii is carved the names of Rotrou, Moliere, Voltaire. Rousseau and Lamartine. He stands aloft a globe of the world. The second celebrates the names of Homer, Shakespeare, Virgil, Le Tasse, and Goethe.

These charming carved figures originally ornamented a large bookcase. Both have losses that do not detract from their decorative beauty.
