Outstanding Camphorwood Chest of Drawers with internal sliding Desk, made in 19th Century British India

This rare and wonderful piece of Victorian 'Campaign' or 'Colonial'  furniture was made  in 2 sections- upper and lower so that it could be more easily carried either on and off a ship or on a military campaign.  The chest has the internal bureau which slides forward to create a desk with pigeon holes.

The sweet odour of camphorwood was specially used to repel insects.
