Item Details

This fine quality late 19th-century Victorian period black leather and mahogany captain's office armchair, dating to around 1890, is in excellent condition. The chair features an elegantly curved buttoned leather scroll back, complemented by a bank of finely turned spindles. It is supported by two large spindles at the front on each side of the armchair. The sprung, stuff-over black leather seat provides exceptional comfort and is adorned with brass stud work along its perimeter, resting on a moulded bow front rail. Symmetrical mouldings enhance the frieze, adding to the chair's aesthetic appeal.
The chair stands on prominent ring-turned legs at the front and swept rear legs, all crafted from solid mahogany with meticulous moulded details. The seat height is 53cm, making it suitable for various settings.
In very good original condition, this armchair not only offers comfort but also serves as a stunning addition to any home or office. Its mid-brown mahogany colour, coupled with the original polish, showcases a fantastic hue and patina that can only be achieved through years of care and maintenance.
