Made from Spelter, this pair of Scottie Dogs are in superb original condition, well cast and with traces of original paint. It bears the registration mark set inbetween the two dogs. For collectors of original advertising items, dogs, drink and animal sculpture.
Spelter was popular as it was cheaper then bronze, which it was often used in place of to resemble it. Used since the mid 19th century, it is made up of copper, zinc and lead and it is a great metal to use for bringing out the detail of an item and you can find small and larger statues made from this underrated material, as well as lighting, candlesticks and other items. It is a soft metal, so for this item to remain in such good condition is rare.
