19th Century and probably French, we say probably as there are no markings.

An anatomical écorché wax medical moulage pathology head, and very much in the style of the Flayed Man by Jean-Antoine Houdon with it's gaunt staring face.

These were usually produced as training aids for the medical world teaching anatomy to students, or sometimes as a part of anatomy shows.

They focused the attention on specific features making the form more comprehensible and invaluable aids when human bodies were less available.

20cm height from base

This is in lovely condition.

Attached to a black base which has some ancient woodworm holes, it has one old small what looks like a nail hole on the top of its head.
