1960’s Mid Century Rosewood Cabinet by McIntosh

A particularly good design from McIntosh and this one in the more luxurious and sought after Rosewood with its pleasing on the eye checkered pattern to the drawer fronts. This piece, in its day, would have been a drinks cabinet and due to its scale could fit into most spaces with a variety of uses.

Despite an aesthetic that could be mistaken as Danish modern, McIntosh marketed itself, both at home and abroad, as a proud Scottish firm that utilized traditional processes and that employed local, highly-skilled cabinetmakers. The McIntosh label is proudly on show on the inside of the right hand door. From 1948 until 1983, Tom Robertson worked as head designer and influenced the style of many pieces.

As mentioned the overall design is first rate; the handles are wonderfully shaped, the interior of super quality, the subtle shaped edges to the top and slender round legs are all worthwhile and applaudable features.

Condition wise it's nice and original - we tend to not over restore rosewood pieces of this era, believing that it makes them look a bit OTT, saying that the colour and grain of this one is good. The inside is smart and we have black felt to one drawer. We have gentle day to day marks to the top but nothing nasty. We also have bumps and knocks to the legs but all historic and not fresh. Label to the cabinet door.

A very classy piece from Mcintosh.
