Retaining its wonderful original painted decoration.

With a caned seat and traditionally upholstered, fitted squab cushion.

Attributed to Gillows, see final image for a similar ‘new ballon back’ pattern armchair. (Lindsay Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800 plate 24.)

Provenance: Glen House, Bruton.

 

Structurally sound, some signs of historic woodworm.
