Item Details
A really fine country armchair constructed from laburnum, attributed to the North West region, C.1830.
Beautifully turned and carved with exposed areas of sap wood throughout, raised on elegant tapering forelegs.
The original drop in seat pad is traditionally upholstered in a John Boyd ‘Holstein Green and Black’ horsehair fabric.
The crispness and quality of this chair along with the construction methods, especially the 'V' shaped mitre concealed dovetail and the original semi-circular front corner blocks could present a fair attribution to Gillows, particularly with their workshop being in Lancaster, North West of England where the regional features of this chair point to.
