Set in original gilt wood frame.
Subject Ornithological study of a Redwing bird.
Signed by the famous listed known artist Ralston Gudgeon RSW 1910-1984.
Ralston Gudgeon Scottish born artist. Gudgeon is best known for his paintings of birds and animals mostly in watercolour Gudgeon studied at the Glasgow School and in 1933 won the Torrance Memorial Award of the Glasgow Institute.
Gudgeon was one of Scotland’s leading wildlife artists and 1936 he was the youngest man ever to be elected to the RSW. He is represented in the Glasgow Art Gallery, the Paisley Art Gallery and City of Edinburgh Collection.
The Redwing is most commonly encountered as a winter bird and is the UK's smallest true thrush. Its creamy strip above the eye and orange-red flank patches make it distinctive.
They roam across the UK's countryside, feeding in fields and hedgerows, rarely visiting gardens, except in the coldest weather when snow covers the fields. Only a few pairs nest in the UK. It is listed as a Schedule 1 species of The Wildlife and Countryside Act.
