Unusual Anglo-Indian carved hardwood coffee table c.1900. 36" x 24" oval table top carved with a central image of the Hindu Trimurti of gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva surrounded by crisply carved borders of scrolling foliage and flower heads in more typically European style. Raised of four exceptional legs carved as spectacular mythical beasts with inlaid bone teeth and eyes, stood on their rear legs and gripping pierced foliage in their front paws and mouths. Note their curving tails, the chains around their waists and the carved decoration. Missing a few of the teeth, otherwise excellent condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
