https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/collinge-antiques17th.c. oak chest or coffer of unusual proportions c.1650. Simple construction from six thick oak boards joined with handmade rose head nails, this style of coffer is one of the very earliest forms of joined furniture. 59" long (larger than most) and easily study enough to use as a hall seat with useful storage space inside. With a simple moulded detail to the front of the lid and chip carved ends continued on the front and back boards. Shaped cutaway at the sides to form the feet. Large hand forged iron hinges and lock plate. Missing the hinged portion of the latch. Very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshop.
