Antique Sarouk carpets are among the most luxurious Persian rugs, renowned for their exceptional style, quality, and understated elegance. These carpets were particularly favored in the West during the 19th century and are crafted in the same region of western Persia as Ziegler Sultanabad and Mahal carpets. What sets Sarouk carpets apart however is their sophistication, with a finer weave and lustrous wool.


This early example features a naive drawing, quite distinct from the traditional designs of its era. Finely woven, the pleasant abrash (sublte colour variation) across the soft terracotta-red field wonderfully complements the artistic designs throughout. Its unique composition is rendered in a palette of gracefully aged vegetable dyes colours, with hues of denim, muted sky-blue, sage green, ochre, and ivory, all framed by multiple decorative borders.


This Antique Sarouk Carpet is in very good practical condition for everyday use, having retained its original borders and fringes on all sides.


One of the most interesting Sarouk Carpets we have seen for some time, this charming example has the simplicity to complement a wide variety of interiors.
