4.23 x 3.06 metres
Laver Kirman carpets are among the most cherished and distinctive of all Persian workshop creations. The workshops in Kirman, renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, gained the favor of the Safavid court in the 17th century, making them some of the earliest Eastern carpets to enter the Western market. Over time, the weavers drew inspiration from European textile traditions, incorporating a unique color palette influenced by Classical French carpets. This influence is evident in this piece, with its soft champagne, duck egg blue, maroon, and sage green tones, all rendered in beautifully aged natural vegetable dyes.
This exquisite late 19th-century carpet predates the widespread commercialization of Persian carpet weaving, reflecting the character of earlier 18th-century designs. Its composition exudes a rare and charming naivety, with an unusually open and balanced design for carpets of this style.
A remarkable work of art, this piece is in excellent condition for its age, still preserving its original outer borders on all sides.
With its understated elegance, this carpet would be a welcome addition to any setting.
