Ziegler carpets were originally commissioned in Persia for the Western market during the late 19th Century to complement Western furnishing tastes, quickly becoming popular across the UK and Europe due to their unique, grand scale drawings and quiet formality. Their understated colours make them highly sought-after additions to modern homes with their unique decorative ability to unite both classic and contemporary elements in a room.
This finely woven Ziegler carpet, with short pile in lustrous wool and gracefully aged natural vegetable dyes, features a restrained palette, with a rare sage green field overlayed with repeating floral motifs rendered in shades of pomegranate, grey, muted duck egg blue and ivory, framed by a tasteful border of great proportion. The artist has opted for a well balanced, open composition, with a large scale drawing reflecting modern aesthetic sensibilities.
