3.95 x 0.77 m
Early Bakshayish pieces, woven in Persia’s mountainous Northwest, are the close relatives of Serapi-Heriz carpets, though are known for being more expressive and more spontaneous than their Heriz cousins and, as a result, are widely sought after among collectors and designers alike.
This fine c. 1860s example boasts a wonderfully understated, earthy colour scheme, all in organic dyes, with tones of cornflower blue, coral red, and ivory in the drawing, set over a muted caramel ground. The design employs a restrained, well-balanced composition in the central field, framed by a wide border.
Retained in very good condition for everyday use, retaining its plain outer borders and short fringes on all sides – remarkable for a piece of this age.
A handsome tribal runner, to suit a wide variety of interiors.
