https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/james-worrallThe height of these mirrors is 2 meters and 37 centimeters - they are enormous and fabulous!
Not quite a pair, but very impressive and attributed to Gillow's of Lancaster by Sotheby's. They were made in the 1840s and have an egg and dart border frames with carved mouldings.
These George IV giltwood mirrors have been carefully restored and are super stylish. They both retain the original plate.
Please take a close look at all our photographs to see the slight difference to the base decoration of this near pair.
Provenance: from the Dunvegan Castle collection on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
The castle dates from the 1200s and building work can be traced up the centuries until the 1850s - around the time these mirrors were made. The estate can be visited today and one can even book a holiday in one of the cottages.
It is considered to be one of the greatest Hebridean castles and the only Highland fortress to be owned and lived in by the same family for over 800 years. Incredible history!
