This is an outstanding piece of brutalist sculpture by one of the masters of the craft in bronze and brass.
Fernandez, along with his contemporaries, Jacques Duval-Brasseur, and Isabelle & Richard Faure pioneered this style of brass and bronze work in the 1970's and 80's, creating some of the most exceptional lighting, furniture and sculptures in what are notoriously difficult materials to work with.
The works are always free flowing, never symmetrical, with all the detailing and decoration coming from the superb use of molten brass, bronze and more rarely nickel, and natural semi-precious stones, never using the much easier to apply enamels or paints, as is seen in many later copies.
Fernandez works are highly collectable, and pieces that were created by the sculptor are rarely available on the market.
