An 18th Century English Oak Country House Linen Press or Wardrobe of Excellent Colour.


This fine piece of oak furniture is in exceptional, original condition. The two cupboard doors, with their fielded panelled fronts of interesting and unusual shape, sit above five drawers in a configuration of four smaller drawers above one larger one. The interior of the cupboard section is untouched, retaining all of its original linen slides. The cupboard doors retain their original gilt brass ring handles and brass edge mounts and the swan's neck drawer handles are also all original.


The oak surface has attained a lovely colour and patination and has plenty of surface figure as well. This is a particularly attractive example of a linen press and a really honest piece of 18th century oak furniture. Features such as the panelled sides and the unusually intricate double moulding to the fielded front door panels are features demonstrating that this piece was made in a very capable provincial workshop.
