https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/lee-wright-antiquesA wonderful large scale, and very elegant 19th Century octagonal drum or library table by Howard and Sons. Having a wonderful parquetry top made from different shades of oak timber. Having Hobbs locks on each of the four drawers that open. Four dummy drawers to match.
The top rests on four turned spindle supports down to four elongated and inverted sabre legs with square block decorated feet, terminating in brass wheel castors.
Howard and Sons of London, who were as well known as Gillows for their quality and styles of furniture, also exhibited around the world and supplied several Royal homes.
Hobbs locks are reputedly the best locks of the time and they surpassed many other locks such as Chubb. In the great exhibition of 1851 Hobbs was the first to pick Bramah's lock and the Chubb detector lock. This made other locksmiths improve their designs.
