This attractive small chest of drawers on legs, known as a lowboy, is an unusually sophisticated example. The cabriole legs, with their very pronounced kick, are a great sign of quality, as is the finely shaped apron to the frieze. The drawers, two small and one large, have plate handles and the top is constructed from highly figured walnut veneers which have been quartered. Each section is divided by the use of inlaid featherbanding, something which is only found on the finest pieces of English walnut.
The whole piece stands beautifully on well defined pad feet and is of mellow and attractive colour.
A very attractive piece of English furniture from the "age of walnut".
