The finely figured top has faded delightfully to a perfect caramel colour, making this piece extremely attractive. The base is well-proportioned and the table stands upon a knopped pedestal stem and three legs-the traditional tripod form. The legs join the pedestal with interesting “hipped” terminals and there is panelled decoration on both the hips and the ends of the legs themselves which terminate in fine brass castors.
This highly adaptable form of table can be used as a centre table in a hallway or other large space, as a small dining table or even as a library table as appropriate. Tables of this sort were produced by all of the great makers of this period and fine examples like this one are as desirable now as they were when first made.
