Item Details

In the early 20th century around two thirds of all cigarettes sold in England were Player's. "Players Please" was a slogan that was introduced in 1924 and became heavily embedded into the brand's identity.

This larger sized enamel sign has a vibrant yellow background, contrasting blue lettering and a wonderfully detailed pictorial of the brand's trademark sailor, with his 'HMS Excellent' hat...

It's a less common example of the Player's Please enamel advertising and probably dates to the 1940s. It's survived the decades in decent order. The pictorial element itself is in decent condition with the majority of the detail still present just a little fading / discolouration. There's a little enamel loss around the outer edes and one patch through the 'e' of Player's and a lighter patch around the 's'. The top, centre mounting hole has corroded away (though it can be hung easily and securely using any combination of the remaining ones). As per the last photo the sign retains a decent gloss.

It measures 88cm high x 57cm wide.
