This is an antique artist's brush pot. A Chinese, carved bamboo treen, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.

Enthusiastically carved detail within a broad bamboo trunk
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order
Bamboo shows appealing grain interest and rich caramel hues
Striking front scene with figures upon a stage, ahead of copious leaf detail
Large phoenix within oval medallions adorn the sides
Trio of smaller carved panels decorating the rear
