This is a large antique Chinese lantern. A hexagonal, Oriental lamp crafted from cedar in the late 19th century, circa 1880.

Cedar with superb grain interest and consistent colour throughout
Large iron hanging hoop displays a desirable aged patina
Stout ball finial above a pagoda-style roof

Pierced carved decorative panels to five of the six sides
One open panel for access to the space within
Scrolled carvings dress the lower frieze

External brass corner straps for sturdiness
Raised on a hexagonal pedestal over bracket feet
