This is an antique sarcophagus cellarette. An English, mahogany wine cooler or storage case, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1780.


Exceptional Georgian cooler, set within striking casework
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
Select stocks present fine grain interest throughout
Graced with deep caramel hues, accentuated with ebonised stringing


Sarcophagus form with plinth lid - ideal for use as a side table with convenient storage
Opening to a natural rest, presenting the original lead cooler lining
Fascia with inset brass-lined lock — key absent


Brass drop handles to side, set upon circular backplates
Standing upon superb, cast brass hairy paw feet with scroll motif
