This is an antique verger's bible box. An English, oak carved ecclesiastical case, dating to the William III period, circa 1700.
- Fascinating carved box, with country provincial craftsmanship
- Displays a desirable aged patina and in original order
- Oak stocks present a profusely carved appearance
- Rich caramel and deep chestnut hues accentuate the case
- Top panel engraved with a monogram for E.W.
- Canted lid presents a square panel with foliate relief
- Scrolled flowerheads and vines adorn the front and side panels
- Dressed with an iron lock escutcheon with long clasp — key absent
- Opens to reveal a clean interior with a pair of drawers
- Drawers held securely with twisting latch handles
