This is a pair of antique hall chairs. A Scottish, oak seat in Arts & Crafts taste, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890.

Quality quarter-sawn oak presents fine grain interest with wisps of medullary rays
Superb caramel hues radiate from beneath a quality wax polish finish

Highly distinctive shaped seat backs exude master craftsmanship
Demi-lune upper rail with rolled edge and carved border decoration
Shield form with a carved arm holding a sea shell over a pierced quarterfoil
Over the open back splat, a pair of foliate patera in the Gothic manner

Wide, flat seat squab set at a comfortable height of 45cm (17.75'')
Sash shaped aprons framed within prominent block shoulders
Skilfully crafted front legs boast bulb carvings over tapering octagonal legs with bun feet
Gently swept rear legs with square section feet
