https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/lorfords-antiquesCollection of nine original mid-16th Century woodcut engraved medallion portraits of Roman Emperors.
With architectural borders and Latin inscriptions. Zurich, 1559.
These portraits were designed by Rudolf Manuel Deutsch, a prolific Swiss artist, cut by Rudolf Wyssenback, and printed by Andreas Gessner. Woodcutting is the oldest form of print-making.
This relief process involved carving designs into the surface of a wooden block, the raised areas would then be inked and printed whilst the recessed areas remained blank.
They are presented in hand-decorated silver gilt and grey frames. These would make a stunning feature on a gallery wall and are a great piece of history.
