Item Details
Fabulous 19th Century bibliothèque cupboard, from a French notaire's office.
This fantastic cupboard is in its original condition and has a grand architectural form. The top section offers an arrangement of open shelves. Slim pigeon-hole shelves, for documents, flank the more generous ones in the centre.
The bottom section offers drawers above panelled cupboard doors that enclose further storage. Both sections are divided with turned columns that have capitals to the tops and terminate in a plinth base.
The whole is covered in attractive grey paint.
French notaires are public officers responsible for various legal matters. Such a cupboard would have been used to assist with day to day administration in the office, and today it offers an enormously decorative piece of storage and display furniture.
