Item Details

Beautifully painted 18th century Swedish marriage chest with date on the inside. Original spring lock and key. They were often decorated with the families' coats of arms or a floral motif, such as the kurbits, which is common in Swedish folk art.


Kurbits is a Swedish folk art style that was popular in the 18th century. It is characterized by colorful and elaborate paintings of plants, animals, and landscapes, as well as depictions of everyday life and scenes from mythology.


This box also has a candle box within it which not all do.


Lovely as a storage chest and would work well as a coffee table too as it has a flat top.
