Constructed from solid faded rosewood this foot stool with sarcophagus shaped cushioned top was designed for lifting the feet slightly from the ground. Relating to a number of examples in famous collections, foremost amongst these are probably a large set made for Shugborough. Having a newly upholstered linen top and extended lion paw rosewood feet with a moulded frame.

Our piece is superior to these examples in having a show frame, executed, as are the wonderful lions' paw feet, in fine quality rosewood. Additionally the upholstered section of the stool is of cushion-sided shape rather than the simple rectangular shape of the National Trust examples illustrated above.
Foot stools are rare survivors, far fewer of them having survived than the armchairs that they would have accompained when made. As such this pieces represents a great opportunity to acquire a fine example of this form.
