This magnificent piece of 17th century furniture is offered in excellent showroom condition.
Rare and very pleasing on the eye, this neat desk is of small proportions and smothered in a beautiful laburnum oyster veneer, this technique is using thin slices of wood branches or roots cut in cross-section, resulting circular or oval pieces of veneer which are laid side by side in furniture to produce various decorative patterns.Because the shape formed resembles an oyster shell the technique acquired the name of oyster veneering.
This item could be used as a desk or dressing table, it has a wonderful colour and decorative pattern, the table top is crossbanded and has a moulded edge, with one long drawer above 6 smaller drawers of solid oak dovetailed construction and a small cupboard door within the kneehole space.
