Item Details

A Charles I boarded oak chest of small proportions. Circa 1640. Probably from the West Country.

The chest has a wonderful patina and is rich in colour, and shows characterful wear as expected.

Two historic pieces of timber have been added to underside of lid. The lock appears to be later too, although probably 18th century. There has been an old repair to the back leg on the right hand side. Please refer to the photographs. Historic woodworm is present, this has been fully treated with a woodworm killer as a precaution.

The lid opens and closes well, left slightly proud at the front. The chest is very sturdy with no loose joints.

A very usable piece of furniture. Please note, the lid does not have a stop, I have used a prop to photograph in situ.
