https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/matt-crosby-interiorsA 19th century brass bound mahogany, short drawer secretaire campaign chest of drawers. Circa 1875.
The lock to the secretaire drawer is stamped 'Bramah London', while the other locks have the coronet stamp to each.
The interior of the secretaire is in solid mahogany with contrasting yew wood veneer. It has three neat drawers and a leather gilt tooled inset which looks original. The brass drop catches are in excellent working order.
The chest is in good condition, and has the original finish. The mahogany has mellowed to a lovely warm colour. There are a marks and knocks around the chest expected for its age and use. The top right hand drawer has had an old repair to the front, which shows a hairline running across the drawer front, this is under the handle and hardly noticeable.
The drawers all work well, and have solid ash interiors with fine handmade dovetail construction. The interiors are in clean condition.
The chest comes in two sections, the top simply fits on to the base held by a dowel either side.
Sturdy in structure, the chest has no loose joints and is free from any woodworm.
