https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/matt-crosby-antiques-interiorsA beautiful bronze sculpture of a warbler calling on a branch, mounted on a black marble plinth. By Andre Vincent Becquerel (French, 1893-1981). Signed by the artist and numbered 96, along with a faint possible foundry mark. Circa 1930.
The sculpture is in very good condition. The gold and brown patinated bronze has the original patina, showing some handling wear commensurate with age. There are a few very minor nibbles to the marble plinth.
Becquerel began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1914, and continued to do so for the rest of his career, winning many awards. He specialized in the representation of birds posed delicately on branches, as well as fish playing in waves.
