Item Details

An antique Edwardian Japanese manner satinwood inverted breakfront desk, with leather and gilt tooled inset. English. Circa 1900.

This good quality desk has a small Japanned landscape scene to the central drawer, along with ornate gilt brass handles and stylised open fretwork design corners. Standing on the original small brass castors, it is veneered in figured satinwood over solid wood in book match design with boxwood inlays.

The leather inset has been replaced at some point in the past, it shows some marks and aging with use.

Structurally sturdy with no loose joints, it is free from any woodworm or damage. The drawers have some marks to the interiors. There are a couple of amateur veneer repairs to the inside kneehole, made at some stage in the piece's life. These will be hardly visible, if at all, when the desk in situ.

There is one key that works the locks, it is a bit temperamental on the bottom drawer lock on the left hand side.

Additional dimensions information:

The desk table height is 77cm. The kneehole height is 58cm high. The cupboard space is 29cm wide x 48cm deep x 29cm high.
