Item Details

19th Century oak floor-standing dinner gong and striker, dating from the Aesthetic Movement period. English - Circa 1870.

The gong frame is made in solid oak. The pediment is affixed to turned supports via peg construction. The gong stands on angled legs. It is structurally sound with no loose joints. The oak frame has the original patina which has been cleaned and waxed and is in very good condition.

The bronze gong shows patination and hand-beaten charm, the hide striker is dressed over cork with a bamboo handle and leather hanging loop. The hide is all intact. The wooden edge to the hide has a hairline but this is solid and will not cause any problems. There is a very small hairline to the finial, which is to one side so will not be on show. This is not loose. A few small knocks to one leg, on the same side as the hairline in the finial so will not be on show. Please refer to the photographs.
