Item Details

A lovely antique Edwardian giltwood three panel screen. Circa 1900.

The giltwood design on each panel is overlaid on glass. The central panel has an oval shaped design, with crest above. The two flanking panels each have sunburst mullions. There is a running ribbon design throughout the gilt frame.

The panels work on double-acting hinges, allowing each panel to bend each way.

The giltwood is original and has been traditionally worked with gesso and bole, showing marks, scuffs, gilt loss and light knocks throughout. Aged patina but with desirable appeal.

There has been a historic repair to the crest, and the oval looks like it has also been restored. Please refer to the the last five photographs. A lovely fabric upholsters the rest of the screen on the front and back, this was probably added about 30-40 years ago. The front is very clean showing a few very light marks, there are a few light marks to the back to note, as shown.

The underside of each panel has a stamped batch number, which would suggest this was made by a good quality maker.
