Item Details

Set of four mid century Antelope chairs designed by Ernest Race. Each labelled: Race Made in England. Circa late 1950's.


Originally designed for the Festival of Britain 1951 as an interior and al fresco chair for restaurants and public spaces. Typifying the modern movement, light, colourful and with a nod to the ‘Atomic Age’. These examples date to the late 1950's.


The chairs are in original condition. The seating has the original finish and there is no delaminating to the plywood. They are all sound. The painted finish of the steel rod frames shows colouration wear. There have been no repairs to the metal frames. Three coach bolts have been added to the chairs' seats where the riveted dome bolts have worn. The plastic feet are all present.


The chairs are very sturdy and usable.
