Bronze cats such as this originated in the homes of people in ancient egypt, where the animals were believed to be a symbol of good luck. The ancient Egyptians held these creatures in the highest esteem as they were believed to embody gods and goddesses - a belief from which these iconic bronze sculptures were born. This highly elegant piece sits on a decorative pedestal, with the body of the cat depicted in its traditionally smooth, elongated form. A magnificent, richly historical item.
