Early 19th century French mirror from the Directoire period with gilt reeded frame. Through many years of dusting, the gold leaf has thinned in a few areas, revealing the terracotta bole beneath but this mirror has been exceptionally well looked after and the original mercury glass is in excellent condition, sparkles when it catches the light, and gives a very good reflection. Originally part of the panelling in an important house, the mirror has unpainted wooden edges and can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
