A quintessentially English oil on canvas. We managed to count eight pheasants foraging in this atmospheric country scene, all gathered around a lone silver birch to the foreground, a ninth pheasant can just be seen in flight above the hedgerow… if you look closely. Lovely muted colours upon a damage free canvas. Signed J.P. Thorley. England circa 1890.
