Item Details

Pair vintage industrial adjustable wall lights sconces spotlights, brutalist, in the style of David Marshall, in aluminium & brass, 1970`s ca, Spanish.

These vintage wall lights have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are newly rewired & earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to install. Each has the following new components: E27 brass lamp holder and brass push button switch. Lightbulbs included. These lights can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use these sconces in other countries although it may be necessary to purchase different light bulbs suitable to local electricity.

Presented here is a pair of vintage sconces spotlights in the style of Spanish sculptor designer David Marshall: the use of aluminium & brass metal finishes combined together, the brutalist organic shape & textured hand finished metal are somewhat similar to the designer`s work.

A very versatile pair as they are adjustable. They could be locked in different positions to work as uplighters & downlighters for general room lighting or at different angles as a spot light for direct lighting.

They can also be turned on & off either by the switch fitted on the neck of the sconce, or from a main light switch on the wall.

The composition of each sconce consists of both a conical arm & shade joined together by a pivotal key. Each sconce is made of aluminium, brass & brass plated metal. The pivotal round brass key located between the shade & the base rotates 180 degrees vertically to the wall. Also fitted to the brass conical arm there is a decorative metal key that can rotate & lock the shade in different positions 360 degrees parallel to the wall.

The conical metal base in a polished brass finish has a circular portion with 3 holes to fit the sconce to the wall.

The conical shade has two parts: the front open portion is in aluminium, in a brutalist finish with plenty of texture, which is most noticeable in one of the shades, and the back portion in brass with holes to release the internal heat.

It is a matching pair of sconces in size & design, with slight variations between the sconces as both were hand finished.

Inside the shade sits the new brass lampholder. Each sconce carries 1 standard big screw light bulb (E 27) up to 100 Watts. At present they are fitted & photographed with clear Candle shaped light bulbs of 25 Watts. These bulbs are included in the price. It could take any other E27 lightbulb shapes, such as spot or golf.

DAVID MARSHALL SCULPTOR DESIGNER HISTORY

David Marshall was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom in 1942. He moved to Spain in the 1960`s where he started his artistic career as a sculptor & designer.

Inspired & influenced by nature & the local Spanish landscape, he started producing art & objects exploring the relationship between the natural & industrial worlds. He prefers (as quoted by himself) " the random forms of nature where no lines are straight and where sensory information comes from imperfections", and attempts to replicate nature in the casting process.

A reaction to Modernism & Minimalism.

The result are   highly individual sculptures & quality items  exhibited at art galleries and shows in Europe & the United States, where he later established a studio in Colorado, still active today.
