Small Oil on Panel of Ancient Roman Ruins Believed to be The Ancient Trajan Arch in The Ruins of Timgad. Located in Modern day Algeria, near the City of Batna. Founded as a military base by Emperor Trajan in 100 AD. It was a Roman Bastion against the Berbers. Although hundreds of miles from Rome Timgad invested heavily in Roman Culture and identity, as can be seen from the painting. The French Colonists took control of the site in 1881 and began investigations and maintained it until 1960. The site has been a UNESCO World heritage site since 1982. France, Circa 1956.
