A unique piece of antique serveware: designed by Dr Christopher Dresser for Hukin & Heath at the end of the 19th Century, this splendid breakfast-in-bed set comprises a folding tray table, which has collapsible legs which have keys (on chains) to lock them in place; a silver plated removable cage to hold two Spode china and silver plated preserve jars and spoons, a tea pot with rattan handle, sugar pot and tongs and milk jug; Spode tea cup and saucer with silver plated teaspoon; Spode china butter dish with silver plated toast rack above; and a Spode china egg up with silver plated spoon, silver plated rack holding two Spode china salt and pepper shakers. The set is original, complete and in outrageously good condition, just the saucer has a hairline crack.


Hukin & Heath, founded in 1855, were renowned for their excellent silver and silver plated ware. Their Head of Design in 1878 was Dr Christopher Dresser and the Company used his designs until around 1900. 


Christopher Dresser (4 July 1834 – 24 November 1904) was a Scottish designer and design theorist, now widely known as one of the first and most important, independent designers. He was a pivotal figure in the Aesthetic Movement and a major contributor to the allied Anglo-Japanese or Modern English style, both of which originated in England and had long-lasting international influence.
