https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/tinker-toadA fine mahogany display cabinet, circa 1900, likely a transitional piece with influences from the earlier Aesthetic Movement. The cabinet showcases clean lines, elegant detailing, and a rich mahogany hue. The upper section, with a geometric design, features glazed panels on the front and sides, along with four decorative panels depicting various games. Attractive brass hinges and handles complete the refined look. The panels, styled in a Greek or Pompeian manner, resemble a series of drawings published in The Building News on December 1st, 1876, which were later turned into painted glass for a billiard room in a distinguished home on Streatham Hill, London.
The base section features four square, reeded legs, joined by an arched stretcher that introduces an architectural element, standing on a lower shelf that offers additional storage. The piece rests on finely carved bracket feet. The item splits in two for easier transportation. With its working lock and key, this versatile and beautifully crafted cabinet would make an excellent drinks cabinet or a stylish display piece for various settings.
