This is a magnificent and extremely rare antique Spanish Madonna and Child santo that dates from the late 18th or the beginning of the 19th century. Discovered recently in Barcelona this remarkable treasure is breathtaking in its exceptional beauty and the masterful craftsmenship that went into its creation. The Madonna is depicted in a stunning "moving" position that gives this ancient masterpice a certain fluid and soft presence that is just glorious. She is entirely hand carved from wood and painted - except for the glass eyes - which is also the case with the Child. She was also discovered with gorgeous silver earings with rhinestones in the shape of hearts. This is a large statue, measuring about 94 x 38 x 23 cm or approximately 37 x 15 x 9 inches and it is in lovely antique condition with some signs of ageing - mainly seen in a fascinating patina created by the passage of time.
