This is an absolutely exquisite and extremely rare antique French sacred heart that dates from the mid 19th century. Discovered recently in France this remarkable heart is outstanding in its grand size as well as the exceptional beauty created from the solid silver [216g or 7.62oz of silver]. When unscrewing the flame, the heart opens so that it could be used as a vessel for holy water, for example. In the past such items would sometimes be filled with perfumes and gifted for weddings, birthdays and other anniversaries. The front of the heart is masterfully engraved with the stunning initials "AM" within garlands of lilies - making it a Heart of Mary as "AM" stands for Ave Maria.
It measures impressive 22 x 11.5 x 5 cm or approximately 8.6 x 4.5 x 2 inches and it is in wonderful antique condition with minor signs of ageing which is expected from the items of this nature and material. There are two tiny dents on the left side which hardly take any of its true beauty and splendour today. This is a magnificent treasure of marvellous beauty and meaning!
