This is an absolutely majestic and extremely rare antique Italian wood carving from the 18th century. This delicate art work is exceptional, with three magnificent lions among the ever fabulous acanthus and flowers. In its true baroque style this rare and opulent treasure is further enhanced with a wonderful gilding. Through the passage of years some of it has flaked away creating in the process a gorgeous patina that in my opinion only brings forth its true beauty and splendour today. The carving measures about 25 x 62 x 6 cm or approximately 10 x 24.4 x 2.3 inches and it is exactly as I discovered it recently with some signs of ageing that is expected from items of this period.
