https://www.decorativecollective.com/dealers/uk-heritageA monumental plate-like fossilised crinoid salvaged from a property housing an ex private British collection.
Thought to date to millions of years ago during the Devonian period, this three dimensional fossil is of an impressive unusual scale.
Originating from Erfoud, in the Anti-Atlas mountains, Morocco, this is a striking display containing multiple intact Scyphocrinus elegans specimens showing detailed crowns and stalks.
This piece is supplied with a custom steel wall mounting bracket.
Crinoids
Crinoids, also known as sea lilies, are related to starfish, sea urchins, and brittle stars.
They lived on stems and were attached to the sea floor by roots, as in the Triassic Muschelkalk Formation, but were originally floating animals in the Jurassic Holzmaden seas.
Today, there are few Crinoids living among shallow coral reefs and in the deep sea. One of this scale and stature is an impressive find.
Additional information
Projection from the wall is between 3-12cm (1.18-4.72in).
CONDITION REPORT
Good structural condition. Plate like specimen; this fossil is not flat and has a slight dish shape with curves up to its edges. Its thickness/depth varies throughout. The bottom part of the fossil is deepest and the top is the thinnest.
